Given that good Friday is coming upon us, it’s time to talk resurrection. I would argue the Miata RF is the Solstice Coupe, resurrected under a different brand. If you could resurrect a dead car model at a different manufacturer, what would it be and why.

Resurrect the GMC Sprint as the Chevrolet El Camino.

Because I want an El Camino and rebadging is an easy loophole through your challenge.

I’ll take the International Scout and give it to GMC. Come up with a catchy name like Mojave or something.

Put an LS series engine in it with a good 6 speed and call it a day.

Datsun 510 as a new Mazda.

I’d have said Nissan, but that’s still kind of the same brand and Nissan makes some pretty boring cars these days. They’d probably throw that whiny little CVT in it too; gross.

Mazda does an excellent job of putting sporty 4 cylinder engines in their most basic of commuter cars, and I think they could kill it making a new 510 based on an adaptation of the MX-5 or Mazda3 chassis.

I’ll take the Honda S2000 and give it to Ford. Not sure what I’d call it, but that chassis with, say, the 2.3 EcoBoost would be lots of fun.

Though not technically dead the version is, the Subaru WRX STi hatch as a Chevy Cruze SS. Because everyone wants an SS Cruze and chevy needs a true hot hatch. The heavy and slow Sonic RS isn’t one.

RX-7 under Dodge. Blasphemy, I know, but think about it. Dodge doesn’t seem to give a flying fuck about fuel economy or reliabity, it is the perfect fit.

If I were to bring back one car It would be the Lotus Elan... by Kia! Wait, that happened. Uhhhh

Ok, in all seriousness I would bring back the AE111 trueno BZ-G or BZ-R as a cooperation between Suzuki and Yamaha.

I have a huge lust for these front drivers, either the NA or S/C as both come standard with an LSD and were pretty lightweight.

Chevy Monza, a cheap light weight, Manual, RWD, lift-back

but bring it back as a Ford. like a smaller liftback Mustang. Which I guess would really just be bringing back a Mustang II

Maybe Honda could make it. the S2000 showed us that they can make RWD cars, and they’re making a Civic that is more liftback than hatchback so they could do it. They won’t and they’d ruin it if they tried (cough cough overcomplicated NSX) but they could make it and make it good.

I did sort of the opposite, bringing back the S2000 as a Ford Capri. That chassis with boost.

Well, if the tooling hadn’t all been scrapped, I’d do the Crown Victoria as the new Volga 3113. Someone needs to corner the Russian taxi and police car market, and they’d be bound to do very well in Middle East exports.
